Trafigura’s Johor oil terminal starts operations
09.25.2009 - NEWS
The first phase of European trader Trafigura’s 400,000 cubic metre (cu m) oil storage terminal in Malaysia has been completed and received its first cargo, one of its joint-venture partners, the MISC Group, said today.

Phase 1 of the Tanjung Langsat terminal in Johor, which has a capacity of 130,000 cu m, is for clean oil products, mainly naphtha and middle distillates, it said in a statement.
Phase 2, with 270,000 cu m capacity, is slated for fuel oil storage and is expected to be completed by March next year.
The terminal, a joint-venture between Trafigura subsidiary Puma, MISC and the Dialog Group, received its first gas oil parcel on Saturday.
Trafigura has also leased another terminal in the same area in Johor, which neighbours the Singapore oil trading hub, that is still under repair following a fire about a year ago.
The European trader currently has about 250,000 cu m of storage for clean oil products, mainly gasoline, in Singapore.
It also occupies part of a floating storage facility, the 265,000-tonne Titan Mercury, offshore Malaysia, with Western traders Glencore and Astra Oil for its fuel oil trading activities.
Trafigura had previously occupied an entire Very Large Crude Carrier, the Kadriah I, for its fuel oil trading business. It gave up the lease about a year ago before moving into the Titan Mercury.
Traders such as Trafigura optimise their trading activities by acquiring storage facilities.
