January 31, 2011 [Vopak Oxiquim/PSG] - After officially opening its doors on the 1st of January of this year, the arrival of the first ship marked the operational outset of the Vopak-Oxiquim Mejillones terminal.

The terminal is located at the north of Chile – 40 miles away from Antofagasta – and has a storage capacity of 10,000 m³ distributed in 4 tanks that will handle chemicals and other liquid products for import and export. Due to its key location, the terminal aims to satisfy the growing demand for storage in that particular area, which is especially related to the mining and industry sectors.

The construction lasted for about 12 months with more than 150 people being employed. Moreover, not only the total investment didn’t exceed the initial budget, but also both construction and infrastructure were completed with the highest security standards.

In its press release the company informed that “with this new development, Vopak-Oxiquim confirms its trust in the Chilean market, in its people and in the country, while making more efforts to give better services to clients and offer them new business opportunities to keep up growing together”.

Oxiquim is one of the most important chemical companies in Chile, it offers storage services, loading and unloading of ships, and has two terminals with a combined storage capacity of 125,000 m³.
