Vopak Horizon Fujairah to Expand Storage Capacity to 2.6 Mm³ with Seventh Phase Opening

March 5, 2015 [ENOC] - Vopak Horizon Fujairah, a joint venture between Royal Vopak, Horizon Terminals Ltd – wholly owned by Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), the Government of Fujairah and Kuwait’s Independent Petroleum Group, launched the 7th expansion phase of the Black Pearl project intended to take the total storage capacity to 2.6 million cubic metres.


The expansion will see five large storage tanks being installed for crude oil with completion scheduled for summer of 2016.

The inauguration of the seventh phase was attended by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, dignitaries from various government departments in Fujairah; Saeed Abdullah Khoory, Chief Executive Officer of ENOC, Yusr Sultan, Managing Director -Terminals, ENOC and other senior officials from ENOC.

Vopak Horizon Fujairah Ltd. (VHFL) is one of the world’s largest bunkering centres and is the first independent onshore oil terminal outside the Arabian Gulf. It caters to blending, break-bulk and consolidation of petroleum products. 

Khoory commented: “The opening of the seventh phase marks another milestone for VHFL. We are thankful to the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, in supporting this milestone project. It will contribute to fulfilling the goal of the Fujairah Government to further strengthen the Emirate as a global hub for refined products.”

The Black Pearl project is a cooperation between Vopak Horizon Fujairah and the Port of Fujairah. The expansion phase will see the construction of a VLCC jetty for the world’s largest tankers which will dock in the port.

“With Fujairah’s status rising in the oil trade, our new storage expansion will be of great economic value to our partners and we look forward to giving them world-class service and support,” Khoory concluded.

Vopak Horizon Fujairah handles the full spectrum of petroleum products including mogas, reformate, naphtha, pygas, gasoil, MTBE, condensate, fuel oil, jet fuel, kerosene, as well as biofuels such as ethanol on request.
