Vopak and Gasunie Jointly Own the New Floating Liquid Gas Terminal in Eemshaven
12.01.2023 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

December 1, 2023 [Dagblad Noorden]- The Rotterdam tank storage company Vopak and Gasunie will each become half owners of a floating terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Eemshaven. The terminal can meet a quarter of the Dutch demand for gas.

Gasunie developed the floating terminal in the Eemshaven area to reduce dependence on Russian gas. The terminal allows an additional import of 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Gasunie and Vopak want to expand capacity to approximately 10 billion cubic meters per year. The companies also work together on the import of green hydrogen at the Eemshaven site.

28 billion cubic meters of gas per year

Vopak and Gasunie are the founders and co-owners of the LNG Gate terminal in Rotterdam, which has been in use since 2011. When all proposed projects are completed, the combined total capacity will be 28 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Royal Vopak is the largest independent tank storage company in the world. De Gasunie is a government company that is responsible for the transport of Dutch natural gas.
