Vitol to open Seaport Canaveral terminal, Florida in April

February 12, 2010 [Reuters] - Vitol, a giant Netherlands-based global oil trader, will open a new $126 million terminal on Florida's east coast in April, with crude and storage tanks and a pipeline, a company spokesman said.

Spokesman Mark Ware said the official opening of Seaport Canaveral in Cape Canaveral, Florida, will be April 29.
“The commissioning will happen any day now,” he said on Friday, meaning the new tanks will be taking product.
The terminal has 24 tanks for gasoline, gasoil, jet fuel, liquid propane gas and fuel oil with total capacity of 118 million gallons (450,000 cubic meters) and transportation infrastruture that include barge, vessel and truck, the company said. The project includes a pipeline to serve cruise ships at the Port of Canaveral.
The terminal is one of Vitol’s two major moves to increase its stake in the U.S. oil industry assets and complement its growing trading activity. The other is Vitol’s purchase late last year of the general partner of SemGroup Energy Partners LP, which includes control of 8.2 million barrels of crude oil storage and 1.150 miles of pipeline in Oklahoma and Texas, key mid-continent states.
The crude storage assets include about 15 percent of capacity – or more than 6 million barrels in tankage — at Cushing, Oklahoma, the world’s largest commercial oil hub and the delivery point for U.S. oil futures.
