Svitzer Clinches Oil Terminal Tug Services Extension

May 25, 2020 [Riviera] – This Maersk subsidiary will provide its tugs for escorting and berthing tankers at the GTI Statia oil storage terminal in St Eustatius for another three years to March 2023.

GTI Statia is one of the largest independent crude and refined product storage terminals serving the US Gulf Coast and Caribbean markets.
It comprises 60 commercial tanks with extensive marine infrastructure and a total storage capacity of 14M barrels, which can store various grades of crude and refined petroleum products.

This facility safely handles more than 90M barrels of products per year. It has become an increasingly vital resource to energy companies at a time of low oil prices and high demand for crude and product storage.
Svitzer’s contract extension involves employing two tugs supporting berthing and undockings of tankers, and various safety standby services.

This contract is in addition to the tug and barge contract Svitzer holds to support the terminal’s operational needs.

GTI Statia chief executive said “Svitzer has proven to be aligned with GTI Statia in operating safely, providing value to our customers and giving back to the St. Eustatius community.”
Svitzer Americas managing sirector Arjen van Dijk sees this contract extension as part of the group’s overall strategy in the Americas. “We are continuously looking to stabilise and expand our operations and are determined to grow our business in the region over the coming years,” he said.
“Our strategy for the Americas is to pursue further growth within a careful selection of projects and ports that fit our portfolio and capabilities well, and where our multi-local presence will make us a more efficient and reliable partner to our customers,” said Mr van Dijk.
In the Americas region, Svitzer employs 835 people, delivering marine services to global and regional customers across 14 countries.
