S&P Global Energy: LNG to become second-largest net export industry in US within 5 years
07.22.2026 By Ricardo Perez - NEWS

July 18, 2026 [ Oil & Gas Journal. ]- S&P Global Energy projects U.S. LNG exports will become the country’s second-largest net export industry within five years, behind only civilian aircraft.

Feedgas demand for LNG is expected to double to 36 bcfd, with the U.S. capturing over one-third of the global LNG market.

The expansion will support 550,000 annual jobs, add $1.4 trillion to GDP through 2040, generate $2.9 trillion in business revenues, and $206 billion in taxes.

Domestic natural gas prices will see minimal impact (average 1.6% household cost rise), remaining among the world’s lowest due to abundant resources and flexible LNG operations.

A potential pause in new projects would tighten global markets, raise Europe/Asia prices by 50%, and shift $76 billion annually to non-U.S. suppliers like Russia.
