Sibur Expects Completion of Ust-Luga Terminal by the End of the Year

June 20, 2013 [PortNews] - Sibur expects to fully complete the construction of Ust-Luga terminal by the end of 2013, IAA PortNews reporter cites Chief Engineer of the terminal Konstantin Kazenkov as telling journalists.

According to him, the facilities are to be built in four phases. The terminal currently undertakes test shipments of LPG. The third gas carrier loaded in Ust-Luga is to deliver 11,000 m3 of LPG to France.

The first phase provides for transshipment of pressurized LPG. Later on, with the launch of isothermal storage facility, it will be possible to ship gas by refrigerated vessels which can carry eight times as much gas as pressurised gas carriers.

When fully operational, the terminal is to be capable of handling 1.5 mln t per year including 1,070,000 tonnes of cooled LPG, 380,000 tonnes of pressurized LPG and some 50,000 tonnes of LPG used for the region’s in-house needs.

Besides, the terminal is supposed to transship about 2.5 mln t of light oil products per year.

As IAA PortNews learnt from Sibur, the launch of the sea terminal will let the Company enter the markets of the North Europe as well as Great Britain and other countries.

The terminal will be the only Russian facility to ship LPG liquefied through application of isothermal technology.

SIBUR is building Ust-Luga LPG transshipment facility, Russia’s largest terminal for transshipment of liquefied petroleum gases with annual capacity of up to 1.5 mln t of LPG and up to 2.5 mln t of light oil products. The construction began in the second quarter of 2012.
