February 27, 2013 [LaNoticia] - Laura Chinchilla, the President of Costa Rica, launched the upgrade works of the petroleum terminal in Puerto Moín, Limón, owned and operated by Recope.
This project will cost around 45,000 million Colones (69 million Euros) and it will consist of a dolphin construction works, where products such as crude, gasoline, diesel and jet A-1 can be loaded and unloaded.
According to the President, this development will make more efficient port operations, 24h per day, and will increase the throughput capacity of received vessels with 80,000 DWT (560,000 barrels of cargo), which would imply an important saving.
ICA-MECO, the Mexican – Costa Rican corporation, is in charge of realizing this project, which also contemplates building of required systems offering higher operational efficiency (such as navigation, fire fight, automation and unloading for the hydro fuels).
The upgrade of the terminal accessability will allow to reduce the number of small capacity vessels, which will save costs on freight charges and insurances, as well as increasing the flexibility to the management of fuel inventories.
