Metro Energy Pushes Back Biofuel Terminal Project's Completion to 2012
09.20.2011 - NEWS

September 20, 2011 [OPIS] - Brooklyn-based heating oil supplier Metro Energy has pushed back the completion date of a new 110-million gal/year biofuel terminal at Greenpoint, Brooklyn, by about one year to the first quarter of 2012, a company spokesman told OPIS on Monday.

The reason for the delay was attributed to changes in biodiesel specifications in the past year, which have raised the project cost slightly.   Metro did not reveal the cost of the privately funded project. The original completion date was in the fourth quarter of 2010 or first quarter of 2011.
The new biofuels processing terminal will be the largest in the country.   New York, along with other Northeast states, is pushing for mandates to use biodiesel in heating oil blends by 2011.
Metro supplies bioheating oil to Long Island, Westchester, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and New Jersey. Its product range also includes diesel and gasoline.
The new terminal, which is located near an existing products terminal at Greenpoint, Brooklyn, will use a wide range of feedstocks, including soy, canola and animal fats, for biodiesel production.
