April 30, 2012 [OPIS] - Magellan will shut down its Amboy petroleum distribution terminal in Illinois, effective 8 a.m. on May 1, a company spokesman told OPIS on Friday. "Our Amboy facility is an under-performing asset," he said.
The company will also discontinue petroleum distribution and storage operations at that location. All rack postings at the terminal will end after April 30.
This decision was made after a comprehensive analysis of the ongoing operations of the Amboy terminal, he added. The terminal is connected to Magellan’s Midwest products pipeline system.
Industry sources in the Midwest attributed the Amboy truck operation shutdown to potential high upgrading costs and the existing throughput may not justify keeping the on-site racks and terminal operational.
At Amboy, Growmark and U.S. Oil were among the major users of that Magellan terminal.
