July 21, 2023 [LBC]- LBC Tank Terminals has taken the final investment decision to expand the terminal in Antwerp and has started the construction of 28 tanks, collectively providing a significant storage capacity of 80,000 cubic meters.
An integral part of the project is a state-of-the-art loading station for trucks and rail cars. The additional capacity and new infrastructure will be dedicated to the safe and efficient storage of base oils and chemicals, serving to meet growing demand and strengthening the terminal’s prominent position as base oil hub in the region.
“With high energy prices, chemicals production in Northwestern Europe is under increasing competitive pressure, while Middle Eastern and US based producers have an advantage with access to lower priced feedstock,” says Erik Kleine, General Manager Europe. “We see a healthy and consistent growth in import of base oils and chemicals into Europe, where Antwerp is a prime location for these growing product flows.”
The project not only reflects our commitment to meet evolving customer needs, but also represents LBC’s broader purpose of driving sustainability in the storage industry by providing integrated storage solutions that prioritize resource efficiency, minimize environmental impact, and contribute to a meaningful future.
The expansion is projected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025.
