April 11, 2024 [ChemAnalyst]- Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) collaborates with Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Public Company Limited (BAFS) to explore a joint venture initiative aimed at establishing a new company dedicated to producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), aligning with the objectives of the aviation sector. Advancing towards Net Zero by 2030, M.R. Supadit Diskul, Chairman of the Executive Board of Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Public Company Limited, participated in a press conference held on April 4th.

Mr. Sompot Ahunai, Chief Executive Officer of Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA), emphasized EA’s commitment to conducting business sustainably, leveraging Thai innovation to enhance the country’s competitiveness. Continuing its investment in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) sector, a biofuel utilized in aircraft, can significantly curb greenhouse gas emissions, aiding Thailand’s pursuit of Carbon Neutrality, aligning with commitments made at COP26 to combat global climate change.

The collaboration between EA and Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Public Company Limited (BAFS) leverages the strengths of both Thai entities, pooling their knowledge, experience, and technology to foster competitiveness in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production business, as well as in SAF fuel storage and management, and other relevant future endeavors, both domestically and within the ASEAN region.

M.L. Natthasit Diskul, President of Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Public Company Limited (BAFS), highlighted BAFS’s dedication to conducting business alongside social and environmental progress. This partnership harnesses over 40 years of collective expertise in managing and providing aviation refueling services, joining forces with EA, a leader in the clean energy sector, to elevate SAF as a pivotal component in transitioning to sustainable aviation practices.

By jointly exploring opportunities to establish an Open-Access Sustainable Aviation Fuel Blending Facility (SAF Blending Facility) to support SAF production from biological and other sources, strategic considerations include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and facilitating access for all oil companies, fostering a free market for sustainable aviation fuel trade. This initiative aims to position Thailand as a regional hub for sustainable air fuel production, building upon BAFS’s proficiency in fuel quality inspection to instill confidence among global airlines regarding the adherence to international standards. Furthermore, BAFS personnel hold ISCC certification, enabling them to verify and certify the quality of SAF, ensuring compliance with sustainability standards and carbon reduction targets.

The signing of the cooperation agreement between EA and BAFS signifies a significant stride in advancing the eco-friendly aviation industry, contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in aviation, and bolstering tourism, a vital economic sector. This collaboration aligns with the principles of Sustainable Business, accelerating Thailand’s progress towards the Net Zero goal and fostering a robust environmental, economic, and social equilibrium within the country.
