Plans are going ahead for a new deepwater oil terminal at Foynes on the west coast of Ireland.

Plans are going ahead for a new deepwater oil terminal at Foynes on the west coast of Ireland.
The Atlantic Fuels Supply Company (AFSC) terminal is a joint venture between three of the largest fuel distributors in the South, Mid-West and West of Ireland.
It will have capacity to supply 15% of Ireland’s fuel requirements by the time it is completed in August 2010.
The terminal will handle a range of oil products, including diesel, gasoil, jet fuel, kerosene, marine fuel, petrol, fuel oil and bio-fuels.
AFSC managing director Chris O’Callaghan was quoted as saying the terminal would make a major contribution to the country’s infrastructure.
“This is a very significant investment with huge potential not just for AFSC and its partners but for Foynes Port and the entire region.
“This will be one of the safest and most environmentally-friendly terminals in Europe and is located within a large and secure port area, away from local residential communities,” he said.
The companies behind the project are Inver Energy, East Cork Oil and Blackshore Holdings (Sweeney Oil).
