August 25, 2011 [OPIS] - The 21.6-million-bbl capacity BORCO oil storage terminal in the Bahamas has shut down all marine facilities due to Hurricane Irene, shipping sources told OPIS on Thursday.
The terminal, which is used mainly to store crude and fuel oil, has the ability to berth the largest oil tankers in the world. It also has some clean products storage capacity.
The facility is used as a hub for bulk build, break bulk and blending operations.
Reliance has a significant clean product storage capacity at BORCO, which is used to break bulk and store gasoline deliveries from India. The smaller cargoes are then shipped to the U.S. East Coast.
Hurricane Irene, a Category 3 storm, struck the Bahamas on Wednesday, and is lingering northwest of the islands on Thursday. It may take a few days for the BORCO terminal to assess damage and reopen for business.
