Brazil Offers More Than $1 Billion to Support the Development of SAF, Marine Biofuel Projects

August 28, 2024 [Ethanol Producer Magazine]- The government of Brazil on Aug. 22 announced it will offer R$6 billion ($1.09 billion) to support the development of biorefineries to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and sustainable marine fuels.

 

Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and FINEP, a government funding agency, will each contribute R$3 billion to the effort. The agencies have issued a joint public call for proposals seeking business plans for the development and implementation of biorefineries to produce SAF or sustainable marine fuel.

The funding opportunity is open to Brazilian companies that produce fuels or that conduct research and development activities with the aim of developing technologies to produce sustainable aviation or marine fuels.

Awards can be used to support activities and expenses related to research, technological development, engineering projects, pilot plants, working capital, the acquisition of machinery and equipment, and certain other expenses. The application deadline is Oct. 31.
