November 6, 2014 [Duro Felguera] - Duro Felguera (DF), via its subsidiary Felguera IHI, has won the contract to execute a fuel supply terminal for ships and hydrocarbon storage in Bahía las Minas (in the province of Colón), on the Atlantic coast of Panama. The client is Vopak, one of the worlds main independent operators in the storage of bulk liquid.
The project will be jointly executed with FCC for a total amount of 99.6 million dollars (79.7 million Euros), of which 70 million dollars (56 million Euros) corresponds to the scope of the work to be carried out by the DF subsidiary. More specifically, Felguera IHI will execute the whole terminal on a turnkey basis except for the maritime and civil work which includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the facility.
The new terminal will be located on land where the old Panama Refinery, belonging to Chevron, was located, and will have nine storage tanks for marine diesel oil and fuel oil, as well as clean oil products (low sulphur gas oil, 95 octane gasoline and Jet A). The aggregate capacity will be 376,000 m³. Likewise, a mooring dock for loading and unloading vessels will be built. The project will be completed with a product piping and transfer system, a fire-fighting system, an electrical and supervision system and the equipment for the stored product quality control laboratory.
Work is planned to start in spring next year and the deadline is 24 months.
The Bahía las Minas terminal is strategically located just ten kilometres from the entrance to the Panama Canal and is a benchmark centre for regional hydrocarbon distribution.
