Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) up 18.9% to 17.04 mln t in Jan-May’14

June 10, 2014 [PortNews IAA] - In Jan-May’14, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 17,045,500 t of cargo (+18.9%, year-on-year), As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 11% to 6,151,100 t, oil products – surged by 39.3% to 4,683,600 t, timber – up 1.1% to 889,600 t, wood pellets – down 42.9% to 238,200, scrap metal – up 16.4% to 401,700 t, ore – up 66.7% to 165,400 t.


Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 14.5 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2013, the port’s throughput declined by 1.6%, year-on-year, to 35,466,700 t of cargo.
