March 31, 2012 [China Daily] - The Norwegian shipping company, Odfjell, plans to invest in port and storage projects in Dalian, a coastal city in Northeast China's Liaoning province. Lawrence Ward Odfjell, the executive chairman of the board of the company praised Dalian as a market with enormous investment potential.
Li Wancai, the mayor of Dalian met with Lawrence W. Odfjell in the Shangri-la Hotel in Hong Kong on March 27. They discussed investment projects for Changxing Island in Dalian.
Odfjell Company leads the world in transportation and the storage of bulk chemicals, acids, vegetable oils and petroleum products. It has the world’s largest fleet of coated chemical tankers and a number of tanker terminals.
The company has built world-class liquid chemical storage tanks in Dalian that are safe and ecologically friendly.
Changxing Island Industrial Zone has advantages in geography, resources, policy, communications and business service and has attracted a number of key investment projects. According to Li Wancai, Dalian aims to develop the island into a base for the petroleum and chemical industry.
Li promised full support from the government for Odfjell’s new investment projects on the island. Odfjell expressed wishes to cooperate with the Dalian government to make the Changxing Island a successful area where both parties can mutually benefit.
