Site study for free plots in Rotterdam Europoort area
03.18.2010 - NEWS
March 18, 2010 [Port of Rotterdam] - The Port of Rotterdam Authority has started a study to develop the sites locally known as ‘Kop van de Beer’ and ‘Stenenterrein’, both along the western edge of the Europoort area. Until recently the Liongas LNG terminal was planned to be realized on the sites. There proved to be insufficient demand from the market for the terminal so the project was cancelled.

LNG (related) activities are included in the study regarding the two sites which generate very strong interest from the market especially the tank storage sector. Given the size, situation and very deep draught, there is a preference for deep sea related activities. The Port Authority will include the knowledge and understanding from the Liongas project, as far as applicable in the further development of its land.

The scenarios that will result from this study will be tested on their economic and financial feasibility. The Port Authority expects to present its plans for the future use of the sites before summer.
