The expansion involves the construction of 130,000 m³ storage tanks for mineral oils and 70,000 m³ storage tanks for vegetable oils or biodiesel. The contract has been awarded to Polimex-Mostostal S.A.

The Polish company Polimex-Mostostal S.A. from Warsaw, which has ample international experience with tank building, has been awarded with the construction of the first phase of an ambitious expansion plan. The first phase involves an investment of about € 70 million.
Financing arrangements have been made with Rabobank Rotterdam.
According to the current schedule, construction work will start in the second quarter of 2010 and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2011.
All permissions have been obtained. In the fourth quarter of 2009 a start was made on the demolition of the existing facilities to make room for the new capacity. Currently the 44-year-old grain silo is being demolished.

Talks with Rotterdam Port Authority on filling in part of the port, so that the size of the existing site can be doubled in the second phase, have reached an advanced stage. After completion of this phase , BTT will have more than 500,000 m3 of storage capacity in some years’ time, with tanks ranging from 2,000 to 17,000 m3, capable of storing a varied package of liquid bulk products, including mineral oils, ethanol, vegetable oils and (bio)diesel.

Currently, BTT is already capable and certified to tranship board-board class 1-3 products and edible oils fast and efficiently. For this purpose, BTT has a jetty with a length of 420 metres, 4 berths and a draught of 13.65 metres.
