Petersburg Oil Terminal mulls expansion
12.22.2009 - NEWS
December 22, 2009 [Portworld] - Petersburg Oil Terminal Ltd. (POT), a key Baltic export route for Russian fuel oil, is expecting a steady oil transshipment volume for 2009, but could see volumes rise in 2010 and beyond on plans to expand.

The terminal is expected to see over 12 million metric tonnes (mt) of throughput in 2009, Igor Teleshev, CEO of POT told journalists.
He said the figure was in line with last year, when the terminal handled 11.8 million mt of oil products, a 2.6% year-on-year increase.
“In 2010, with very good circumstances, we will be able to beat another record,” Teleshev was quoted saying by a Russian news service.
He said all major suppliers of oil products have confirmed shipping via POT for 2010, and that “so far no one has talked about possible cuts in supply”.
News also emerged that POT is considering a possibility to start transfers of vacuum gasoil. Teleshev told reporters that a decision on handling the new product would be taken in the end of 2009 or in the beginning of 2010.
Should the plans go ahead, the company will construct additional tanks for the storage and transfer of vacuum gasoil, which would take a year and a half, according to PortNews.
Plans are already in place for new tanks that could be used for the new product line.
Should POT decide not to go ahead with the vacuum gasoil transshipment, new tanks for fuel oil would likely be constructed instead, it was reported.
