New bunker terminal in Kochi port
10.13.2009 - NEWS
A bunker terminal to be built at India's Kochi port in Kerala state has drawn interest from six companies, both domestic and foreign. ''The port would like to award this project to multiple operators,'' said N Ramachandran, chairman of Cochin Port Trust (CPT). The project, estimated to cost between $31-37 million (1.5-1.8 billion rupees), will be awarded on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis for a concession period of 30 years.

Ramachandran declined to reveal the names of the six companies interested in the project.
”We’ll get a minimum of two operators to have competition,” a source from CPT told Bunkerworld on Monday.
Scheduled to be completed in 2011, the terminal will have an initial capacity of 1 million tonnes, which can be increased to 3 million tonnes if required.
The proposed terminal, to be constructed on Puthuvype Island, one of the two Special Economic Zones (SEZ) promoted by CPT, will be the first of its kind to cater to international ships passing India’s southern coast.
