Yara Buys Texas Ammonia Plant for $1.3 Billion

July 02, 2026 [Reuters]- Norwegian fertiliser maker Yara said on Thursday its subsidiary had agreed to buy Gulf Coast ‌Ammonia’s production plant in Texas from GCA Holdings LLC for $1.3 billion.

The deal follows Yara’s decision not to proceed with its acquisition of ammonia assets in the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex from Air Products in June.

  • Yara will own the facility and Air Products will supply industrial gases to the company as part of a long-term supply agreement
  • The plant has an expected nameplate capacity ‌of 1.3 million tonnes per annum
  • The acquisition raises Yara’s total capex outlay for 2026 to $2.5 billion
  • “The plant is currently in commissioning and is anticipated to continue ramping up toward full production and stable operations by end of 2026 with production targeted at above nameplate capacity,” Yara said
  • Ammonia is a key raw material used to make fertiliser
