Samchem Leases Johor Land for RM21m to Build Chemical Storage Terminal

April 23, 2026 [The Edge]- Samchem Holdings Bhd (KL:SAMCHEM), an integrated chemicals and lubricants distributor, is leasing industrial land in Johor Bahru to build a bulk liquid storage terminal to expand capacity.

Its wholly-owned unit SC Terminals Sdn Bhd has inked a lease agreement with Idemitsu Chemicals (M) Sdn Bhd for a 439,092 sq ft parcel in Plentong for RM21.08 million in cash.

In its filing with Bursa Malaysia, Samchem said the land forms part of a 64.21ha (about 6.91 million sq ft) parcel. The lease runs until May 29, 2051, with an option to extend.

Samchem said the facility will enable it to undertake bulk-breaking activities — repackaging chemicals from bulk into smaller quantities — strengthening its competitive position and allowing it to move further up the value chain.

“The group intends to construct its own bulk liquid storage terminal for the storage of liquid chemicals to expand its storage capacity for our internal usage as well as for rentals to our customers and enhance its capability to handle a wider range and larger volumes of chemicals,” it said.

Samchem and its subsidiaries are principally involved in the distribution of polyurethane; intermediate, speciality and other industrial chemicals; blending of customised solvents; and provision of logistics services, tank storage and bulk breaking facilities.

The group operates chemical storage and warehousing infrastructure across Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore to support its integrated chemical distribution business. It also utilises bulk liquid storage tanks and a fleet of tanker trucks to provide specialised logistics solutions.

Shares of Samchem closed up 1.5 sen or 3.49% at 44.5 sen on Wednesday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM242.08 million.
