LNG Import Terminal Expansion Advances in the Netherlands
06.07.2026 By Ricardo Perez - NEWS

06/03/2026 [ Pgjonline ]- A key LNG import facility in the Netherlands has moved closer to expansion after securing customer commitments and a conditional investment decision, with final approval still pending.

Shareholders Gasunie and Vopak have approved a conditional final investment decision (cFID) to expand the EemsEnergyTerminal LNG import facility in the Netherlands, advancing plans to extend the terminal’s role in European gas supply through the next decade.

The decision marks a significant milestone for the project, although a full final investment decision remains contingent on obtaining required regulatory approvals and permits.

The terminal has already secured agreements with customers to supply liquefied natural gas between 2028 and 2036, providing commercial support for the proposed expansion.

EemsEnergyTerminal was developed to strengthen European energy security and provide additional LNG import capacity following disruptions to traditional gas supply routes. The planned expansion is intended to ensure continued access to LNG imports and support long-term supply diversification efforts across the region.

“The conditional investment decision represents an important step toward extending the terminal’s operations and LNG import capabilities,” the companies said in a statement.

Gasunie and Vopak said the project remains subject to permitting requirements before a definitive final investment decision can be reached.
