HIF Global Arranges E-Methanol Offtake Deal with German eFuel One
02.20.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

February 20, 2026 [Renewables Now]- E-fuels producer HIF Global has signed a heads of agreement (HoA) with German eFuel One GmbH, a German producer of e‑fuel racing fuels, for the long-term supply of 100,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year.

The e-methanol is intended to come from HIF’s Paysandu project in Uruguay. In November 2025, the project, which envisages the installation of 1.1 GW of electrolyser capacity, secured environmental location feasibility (VAL) from Uruguay’s Ministry of Environment.

The HoA set the main commercial terms for a future definitive offtake agreement, HIF Global noted today. The e-methanol to be supplied under it will be certified under EU RED III RFNBO standards and delivered through the Port of Hamburg.

“We are establishing the foundation for reliable, industrial scale production of e-Fuels, an essential building block for the urgently needed, technology open path to climate neutrality in the transport sector,” commented Christian Hanke, CEO of German eFuel One GmbH. The company is described as the first commercial e-gasoline facility in Germany.

E-methanol, made from green hydrogen and recycled carbon dioxide, can be used directly in shipping and industry, or further converted into other sustainable fuels, such as e-gasoline or e-SAF.
