Chiyoda Wins FEED Contract for Okinawa SAF Project
11.03.2025 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

November 03, 2025 [Global Flow Control]- Chiyoda Corporation has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities at Taiyo Oil Co.’s Okinawa operations.

The project aims to produce 200,000 kiloliters (kL) of SAF and renewable diesel annually using ethanol-to-jet technology at the Okinawa site. The initiative supports the Japanese government’s FY2030 SAF supply target, representing at least 5% of the greenhouse gas emissions of jet fuel produced and supplied in Japan in FY2019.

Taiyo Oil’s SAF project has also been selected as a subsidized project under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Subsidy for Promotion of Transition to a Decarbonized, Growth-Oriented Economic Structure, highlighting its strategic importance in Japan’s energy transition.

Chiyoda will leverage its technical expertise and over 70 years of experience in oil and gas plant engineering to execute the FEED, ensuring the efficient and safe implementation of the new SAF production facilities. The project represents a key step toward decarbonizing Japan’s aviation sector and supporting the country’s broader climate and energy goals.
