July 15, 2026 [Tank Storage Magazine]- BOTAS has began construction on a fourth storage tank at Marmaraereglisi LNG Terminal in northwestern Turkiye, increasing its LNG storage capacity by almost 60%.
The new tank will offer 160,000m3 of LNG storage, bringing the total capacity of the terminal to 415,000m3. The expansion improves Turkiye’s natural gas supplies flexibility, as it allows the country to store LNG delivered by ships, regasify it when needed and transport it via road tankers while it is still in liquid form. Around 65 LNG vessels dock at the terminal annually and can accommodate conventional LNG carriers as well as large-capacity Q-Flex and Q-Max vessels.
Alparslan Bayraktar, Energy and Natural Resources Manager for Türkiye’s government, says the new investment will ‘strengthen our natural gas infrastructure’ and ‘increase our resilience against crises.’
