Iran Accelerates Kharg Island Oil Terminal Projects
07.28.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

July 28, 2026 [Tank Storage Magazine]- Abbas Assadrouz, head of the Iranian Oil Terminals Co, has confirmed that Iran is accelerating the completion of important safety upgrade projects at its Kharg Island oil terminal in direct response to the US’ attacks on the facilities. Notably, one project is a fire detection and firefighting system for crude oil storage tanks.

Kharg Island is about 25km from Iran’s coast, and has a close location to southern oilfields, favourable maritime positioning for very large crude oil carriers and deep-water access. Roughly 90% of Iran’s crude oil passes through the site.

Speaking to Shana News Agency, Assadrouz says: ‘These projects aim to enhance safety, increase equipment reliability, boost operational readiness and ensure the sustainable continuity of the country’s oil exports.’
