September 29, 2025 [Pipeline Technology Journal]- Bangladesh’s Shah Amanat International Airport has inaugurated the country’s first-ever dedicated aviation fuel pipeline, delivering jet fuel to the Airport.

The six-kilometre direct jet fuel supply pipeline, stretching from the Padma Oil Company’s main installation in Patenga, was inaugurated on Wednesday, marking a significant step toward modernising Bangladesh’s energy and aviation sectors.

The Tk155 crore ($1.8 million) project, built by Padma Oil Company, a subsidiary of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), aims to replace traditional road tanker deliveries.

Officials say the pipeline will enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and minimise safety risks associated with fuel transportation.

“This is the first airport in Bangladesh to receive jet fuel through a dedicated pipeline,” said Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, during the inauguration ceremony.

“The project will ensure modern, eco-friendly, and efficient fuel delivery to aircraft.”

The new pipeline is capable of transporting 140 cubic meters of jet fuel per hour. It’s expected to cut the delivery time to a mere 90 minutes, a vast improvement over the time-consuming and often unpredictable road transport.

Padma Oil officials estimate the company will save approximately Tk2.5 crore ($294,000) annually in transport costs.

Anup Kumar Barua, the project director, noted that the pipeline makes the supply process “safer, faster, and more economical,” addressing previous challenges with road-based deliveries.

According to Padma Oil sources, the project began in December 2023 and was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
