May 24, 2023 [Oils & Fats International]- Leading US energy infrastructure company Kinder Morgan (KMI) has announced an agreement with Finnish renewable fuels producer Neste to store feedstocks, such as used cooking oil (UCO), at its Harvey terminal in Louisiana.

The feedstocks – including UCO collected by Neste from more than 80,000 restaurants across the USA – would be used to produce renewable fuels and plastics, KMI said on 8 May.

Improvements had been made to rail, truck and marine infrastructure at the facility to meet the requirements of Neste’s feedstock supply chain, the company said.

“This project is a[n] example of how Kinder Morgan’s … network of existing terminal infrastructure can be… converted to meet the growing needs of the renewable fuels market in the US,” KMI president of terminals John Schlosser said.

The project was supported by a long-term commercial commitment from Neste and could be expanded if needed, KMI said.

One of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, KMI owns an interest in or operates approximately 132,000km (82,000 miles) of pipelines and 140 terminals.

The company’s pipelines transport natural gas, refined petroleum products, renewable fuels, crude oil, condensate, CO₂ and other products, while its terminals store and handle various commodities including gasoline, diesel fuel, chemicals, ethanol, metals, renewable fuel feedstocks and petroleum coke.
