Turkey's BOTAS Signs Deal with Italy's Edison for Natural Gas And LNG Cooperation

May 22, 2026 [Reuters]- Turkey’s state energy company BOTAS said on Friday ​that it has signed a ‌memorandum of understanding with Italian energy company Edison to expore potential ​opportunities for cooperation in the ​fields of natural gas and ⁠LNG.

 

  • Under the agreement, natural gas ​and liquefied natural gas supply ​opportunities and joint commercial prospects will be assessed, BOTAS said in a statement.
  • A ​joint working group will ​be established to examine the technical, commercial ‌and ⁠regulatory aspects of a potential hydrogen-compatible natural gas interconnector between Turkey and Italy it also ​said.
  • BOTAS said ​it ⁠is aimed that “the strategic partnership” with Edison will ​make a significant contribution to ​the ⁠development of both Turkey and Italy, connections within the Mediterranean ⁠basin, ​and regional energy ​supply security.
