Augustus 04, 2022 [StorageTerminalsMag] – US company Bayou Midstream has completed transactions to buy pipeline and terminal assets in the western Bakken Shale region from NorthStar Midstream and has expanded its crude oil gathering acreage with Kraken in Richland County, Montana, US.

The acquired NorthStar assets include 660,000 bbl of crude oil storage at the Alexander and East Fairview terminals, in McKenzie County, North Dakota, and a 23 mile (37 km) pipeline connecting oil producers in the Western Bakken with the long distance Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), which runs to a terminal in Pakota, Illinois and from there allows access to the Gulf Coast and Midwest refineries and other downstream markets. The acquisitions also include rail connectivity and a high-speed frac sand transloading terminal with 22,500 tons (20,412 tonnes) of silo storage space.

Meanwhile, Bayou has been active in oil gathering Richland County since 2019 and has been keen to expand acreage. The company is currently building the Fairview Connector pipeline which will now connect its crude gathering system in Richland to the new East Fairview asset, which is expected to be operational by Q4 2022.

‘We are excited about the expanded crude oil gathering dedication with Kraken, the closing of the Bakken NorthStar Midstream assets, and our current construction projects connecting the legacy Bayou Midstream assets and the newly acquired system. This combined system is a win for our producer partners as this growth will enhance their wellhead to market connectivity, operational integrity, and our ability to serve their needs,’ says Travis Roby, CEO of Bayou Midstream.
