Gate terminal to boost LNG capabilities

Operational since 2011, Gate terminal’s initial capacity amount to 12 billion cubic meters per year (bcma) and can in the future go up to 16 bcma. The terminal also offers other services. These include back-loading services for LNG vessels, ranging from small bunker vessels to large LNG carriers.

On 6 July, Gate said it is taking three initiatives to strengthen its position in the security of the energy supply.

Firstly, it decided to build two additional truck loading bays that will become operational in the second half of 2023.

Following modifications, the terminal reports it is now able to continue offering its expanded send-out capability also through the winter. The annual capacity is now 12 bcm on a firm basis and in addition 4 bcm on an interruptible basis. In 2021 the send-out capacity was 12 bcm.

Moreover, Gate terminal started working on permit application, regulatory conditions, and technical feasibility to launch an open season on 15 August to increase the firm annual capacity by 4 bcm. Such an expansion would include a fourth tank.

Such capacity could become continuously available between 1 October 2025 and 1 October 2026.
