Dutch Floating LNG Plant Expected in Early August
05.02.2022 By Ricardo Perez - NEWS

May 2, 2022 [Gas World] – A liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal is set to arrive at Eemshaven port in Groningen in early August this year (2022).

Dutch energy firm Gasunie will connect the plant to the nationwide gas pipeline network, taking charge of distributing the gas across the Netherlands.

Ahead of the plant departing Singapore in May, Ulco Vermeulen, Member of the Executive Board, Gasunie, said, “We will now enter further negotiations with potential customers.”

“They will be the ones who will be using our terminal in the near future, initially for LNG, and later for green hydrogen. We will be operating it under the name EemsEnergyTerminal.”

To be transported through the gas network, natural gas must be prepared to be shipped by undergoing liquefaction before being regasified upon arrival.

The FLNG plant enables the transport of LNG by sea to Eemshaven, where it is subsequently regasified.

Earlier this year, the Dutch government revealed that it is working with Gasunie to jointly explore ways to ramp up the Netherlands’ LNG import capacity in the short term, decreasing the reliance on Russian gas.
