Dutch Gate terminal receives first carbon neutral LNG shipment
07.05.2021 By Ricardo Perez - NEWS

July 5, 2021 [Gas World] – A joint venture between Vopak and Gasunie, Gate terminal B.V. received its first carbon-neutral liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo last month.

The cargo was purchased by TotalEnergies and OMV.

With reduction of its carbon footprint in mind, Gate terminal use waste-heat during the regasification of its LNG before supply. By avoiding burning gas the company minimise carbon dioxide emissions and increase overall sustainability.

A statement released on the Gate terminal website read, “Together with our partners, we will continue to take initiatives such as our recently announced and ISCC-certified bio-LNG activity to further reduce the impact of our activities”

As Europe’s LNG hub, Gate terminal is regarded as an access gateway for global supply of LNG. The import terminal in Rotterdam contributes to the natural gas supply in the Netherlands and Northwest Europe.
