October 19, 2020 [On-Site] – A major expansion at the Port of Trois-Rivières has secured $33.4 million in funding from the federal government.

Canada’s Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, François-Philippe Champagne, announced the financial backing for the Quebec terminal project Oct. 9.

Construction will clear the way for more dry and liquid bulk, as well as general cargo, to move in and out of the port between Montreal and Quebec City. Billed as Terminal 21, the project is expected to increase the port’s capacity by about 50 per cent.

The work covers approximately 100,000 square-metres just west of the existing facility and includes new docks, retaining structures, storage and road and rail links. The commitment from Ottawa will cover around 25 per cent of the building project’s total cost of $130 million.

Construction is expected to create about 630 jobs, with the new terminal opening by the end of 2023.
