Japan to Start Discussions on LNG Bunkering Station at Yokohama Port

June 9, 2016 [Platts] - Japan will start discussions to set up the country's first LNG bunkering station at Yokohama port amid expected growth of LNG-fueled ships, Tokyo Gas said Tuesday.

The first meeting will be held on Thursday and Tokyo Gas, shipping firm Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and officials from Japan’s transport and economy ministries will participate, Tokyo Gas said.

The group will try to conclude discussions by the end of this year, the gas utility added.

LNG bunkering is still in its infancy for Japan.

In September last year, Tokyo Gas signed a contract with Japanese shipping company Wing Maritime Service Corp. to supply LNG that will be used for Japan’s first LNG-fueled tugboat.
