March 11, 2024 [H2 View]- Worley has been awarded renewable hydrogen project services by Shell to support the delivery of its Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1) project.
Located in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, HH1 will see a 200MW electrolyser powered by an offshore wind farm produce up to 60,000kg of hydrogen per day.
Under the service contract, Worley will provide design and procurement, and construction management support services including the important integration required with key vendors and other assets, such as offshore wind, pipelines and electrical grids.
Hydrogen produced by HH1 will be initially used at Shell’s Energy and Chemicals Park in Rotterdam to partially decarbonise the production of fossil fuels and support the industrial use of hydrogen in the heavy transportation industry.
Worley secured a contract to service Shell’s operations all across the globe last year (2023).
Mark Trueman, Group President and Shell Account Executive Sponsor at Worley, stated the company is committed to working with Shell and the other key vendors to deliver the project.
“The HH1 project showcases the critical partnership between our companies required to develop innovative large-scale renewable hydrogen infrastructure,” added Trueman.
Worley will undertake the work at its office in The Hague and through its Global Integrated Delivery team in Mumbai, India, leveraging its global hydrogen subject matter experts and capabilities.
In 2022, Shell’s subsidiaries, Nederland BV and Shell Overseas Investments BV, made the final investment decision (FID) to build the HH1 project, “Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plant.”
H2 View understands the project is planned to become operational in 2025.
