August 28, 2024 [Chem Analyst]- Cepsa Bioenergia San Roque SL (CBSR), a joint venture formed by Cepsa and Bio-Oils, has contracted Worley to provide services for the expansion of its renewable fuel facility in Huelva, Spain. Worley will play a crucial role in supporting CBSR’s growth and sustainability initiatives by contributing to the expansion of its renewable energy production capacity. This expansion includes the development of a new biofuel plant, furthering CBSR’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Cepsa and Apical have announced that their new biofuel plant, set to be one of the largest second-generation biofuel facilities in southern Europe upon completion, will significantly advance low-carbon solutions across aviation, maritime, and land transportation sectors. The facility will be designed to produce 500,000 tons annually of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (hydrogenated vegetable oil or HVO), thereby doubling the current production capacity of the existing complex to 1 million tonnes per year. This strategic expansion is scheduled to commence production in 2026, underscoring the commitment to enhancing sustainable fuel options and reducing carbon emissions.

Under this agreement, Worley is tasked with providing comprehensive engineering, procurement, and field engineering support for CBSR’s renewable fuel complex expansion. This includes managing the development of feedstock pretreatment facilities, outside battery limit fuel pre-treatment units, and a wastewater treatment plant. By undertaking this contract, Worley is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, as it considers the project to be aligned with its standards for sustainability-related work. This endeavor underscores Worley’s focus on advancing environmentally responsible and sustainable engineering solutions.

Furthermore, Worley will deliver engineering, procurement, and field engineering services primarily from its Singapore office, with additional support from its teams in Spain and the Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teams based in India. This collaborative approach leverages Worley’s global expertise and resources to ensure efficient and effective execution of the project.

Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the CBSR joint venture, which includes Cepsa and Bio-Oils, on the development of the new second-generation biofuel plant. He highlighted that this project aligns with Worley’s mission to promote sustainability by advancing the production of eco-friendly fuels. Ashton emphasized that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to contributing to a more sustainable world through innovative and impactful environmental solutions.

Worley, a multinational professional services company, offers a comprehensive range of engineering, procurement, and construction services to the energy, chemicals, and resources. We collaborate with our clients to deliver successful projects and maximize the value of their assets throughout their lifecycle. As the energy landscape evolves, we are committed to facilitating the transition to more sustainable energy sources while ensuring the continued supply of essential energy, chemicals, and resources.
