World’s Largest LNG Plant to Be Built at the Port of Amsterdam

October 24, 2022 [FleetMon] – Dutch Fuel Supplier “Titan” intends to make the world’s largest bio LNG liquefaction plant near its berth in the Port of Amsterdam.

When completed, the facility will have the capacity to produce 200,000 tons of bio-LNG annually.

According to Titan’s plans, the facility will begin production in 2025. Contracts have been signed with BioValue for procuring biogas and Linde Engineering for the basic engineering requirements.

BioValue, which is the largest biogas producer in the Netherlands is setting up a new biogas production facility adjacent to Titan’s new LNG plant for this project. The majority of biogas required will be sourced from the BioValue facility, the rest of it will be obtained from other production installations throughout Europe. Titan states that the hybrid sourcing setup will help make an impact on decarbonizing the maritime industry at scale.

This LBM (Liquefied bio Methane) is intended to replace conventional fuel and will reduce CO2 emissions by half a million tons per year, this amounts to around 25% of emissions from all diesel cars in the Netherlands.

This project aligns with the EU Regulations such as the Fit-For-55 package and the more recent RePower EU plans. Titan is sourcing biogas only from sustainable feedstocks that are compliant with the latest EU Renewable Energy Directive and are International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified. Other sustainability measures in the plant include the utilization of a biogenic CO2 side stream and a hydrogen-ready design. This will help in the combining of biogenic CO2 with hydrogen in the future to produce methane.
