June 11, 2012 [Industrial Info Resources] - Vopak Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of Royal Vopak (Rotterdam, Netherlands), has called for tender for the demolition of old tanks and the construction of new ones at the Alemoa Refined Products Terminal (Santos, Sao Pablo).

The maritime terminal in Alemoa already has 112 tanks, with a total capacity of 161,617 cubic meters (cbm), with sizes that go from 100 to 3,746 cbm. The purpose of these tanks is to store petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils, oleochemicals and biofuels.

The tender consists of the demolition of 32 antiquated tanks and the construction of 28 new tanks that have a total capacity of 53,000 cbm. The new tanks are equipped for the storage of vegetable oil, mineral oil and lubricating oil.

According to the schedule, Vopak Brasil will receive proposals until June and will select a major contractor in July this year. The demolition will start in August, and the construction is expected to begin in September 2012. The project completion is planned for the second quarter of 2014.

Vopak has 4 storage terminals in Brazil: Ilha Barnabe Petroleum Products & Chemicals Terminal (Ilha Barnabé, Sao Paulo), Paranagua Chemicals & Vegoils Terminal (Paranagua, Parana), Alemoa Refined Products Terminal (Alemoa, Santos, Sao Paulo) and Arautu Petroleum Products & Chemical Terminal (Candeias, Bahia).

In this last terminal, Vopak Brasil also is working on another active project. The terminal with an existing capacity of 90,000 cbm will be increased to a capacity of 105,000 cbm by building more storage tanks.
