August 25, 2023 [LNG Prime]- US liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports dropped in the week ending August 23 compared to the week before, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The agency said in its weekly natural gas report that 20 LNG carriers departed the US plants between August 17 and August 23, down by four cargoes compared to the week before.
Moreover, the total capacity of these LNG vessels is 72 Bcf, the EIA said, citing shipping data provided by Bloomberg Finance.
Average natural gas deliveries to US LNG export terminals decreased by 2.8 percent (0.3 Bcf/d) week over week, averaging 11.9 Bcf/d, according to data from S&P Global Commodity Insights.
Natural gas deliveries to terminals in South Texas decreased by 5 percent (0.2 Bcf/d) to 3.7 Bcf/d, while deliveries to terminals in South Louisiana decreased by 2.1 percent (0.2 Bcf/d) to 7.1 Bcf/d.
The agency said that natural gas deliveries to terminals outside the Gulf Coast were essentially unchanged at 1.1 Bcf/d.
Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant shipped seven cargoes and the company’s Corpus Christi facility sent three shipments during the week under review.
The Freeport LNG terminal and Sempra’s Cameron LNG terminal each shipped three cargoes and Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass sent two cargoes.
Also, the Cove Point LNG terminal and the Elba Island terminal each sent one cargo during the week under review, the agency said.
Henry Hub slightly up
This report week, the Henry Hub spot price rose 4 cents from $2.55 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) last Wednesday to $2.59/MMBtu this Wednesday.
Moreover, the price of the September 2023 NYMEX contract decreased 9.5 cents, from $2.592/MMBtu last Wednesday to $2.497/MMBtu this Wednesday.
According to the agency, the price of the 12-month strip averaging September 2023 through August 2024 futures contracts declined 11.5 cents to $3.224/MMBtu.
TTF climbs
The agency said that international natural gas futures increased this report week.
Bloomberg Finance reported that weekly average front-month futures prices for LNG cargoes in East Asia increased $2.33 to a weekly average of $14.09/MMBtu.
Natural gas futures for delivery at the Dutch TTF increased 60 cents to a weekly average of $12.35/MMBtu.
In the same week last year (week ending August 24, 2022), the prices were $59.01/MMBtu in East Asia and $77.60/MMBtu at TTF, the EIA said.
