November 14, 2016 [OPIS] - Enemed is looking to lease 12 ultra-low-sulfur gasoil storage tanks on Malta in the Mediterranean at the start of next year, according to documents seen by OPIS.

Five of the tanks available now are situated at Has Saptan. Three tanks can hold 15,100 metric tons and two can hold 13,600 tons.

The other seven tanks are situated at Ras Hanzir on the island. Six of the tanks can hold 6,670 metric tons and one of them can hold 8,365 tons of 0.1% gasoil or diesel.

Two more tanks in Ras Hanzir will be available to lease in the second quarter of 2017, and can each hold 6,670 tons.

Tanks at both these sites can be loaded from an onshore line in Marsaxlokk Harbour, a quay berth at Ras Hanzir and a berth at Laboratory Wharf.

Enemed, the state-owned fuel procurement arm of the utility Enemalta, is looking to lease the tanks to just one company, and has four rental options of six months, one year, two years, or more than two years. Each period starts on Jan. 1 next year.

The winner of the tender can apply to extend the rental agreement to four years, but the storage charge will be rise by up to 2% for any six-month extension, and up to 5% for any one year extension.

The tender closes on Nov. 18.
