September 29, 2025 [Investing]- TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with Continental Resources to acquire a 49% interest in natural gas producing assets in the Anadarko Basin, Oklahoma, according to a press release statement.
The acquisition involves assets operated by Continental Resources that have the potential to reach gross production of approximately 350 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) by 2030, with TotalEnergies securing a net gas production of around 150 MMscfd.
This transaction adds to TotalEnergies’ recent expansion in U.S. natural gas production, following the Dorado and Constellation acquisitions in the Eagle Ford Basin earlier this year. The company also operates production of approximately 500 MMscfd in the Barnett.
Nicolas Terraz, President of Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, stated that the acquisition “will further increase our natural gas production in the United States and consolidate TotalEnergies’ integrated LNG position with a competitive low-cost and low-emission gas production.”
The company describes the assets as “low-cost and long-plateau” with existing connections to Henry Hub through midstream infrastructure, which strengthens TotalEnergies’ integration across the liquefied natural gas value chain in the U.S.
TotalEnergies currently ranks as the world’s third largest LNG player with a global portfolio of 40 million tonnes per year in 2024. The company aims to increase the share of natural gas in its sales mix to nearly 50% by 2030.
The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in the announcement.
