Tokyo Gas Engineering Bags Thai LNG Gig

November 11, 2022 [Reuters] – Japan’s Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions, a unit of Tokyo Gas, has secured a contract from a joint venture consisting of Thailand’s Gulf Energy Development and PTT Tank Terminal, a unit of PTT, for their planned LNG terminal in Map Ta Phut.

Under the deal with Gulf MTP LNG Terminal, TGES said it would carry out updates of front end engineering design (FEED) and engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) tender management services.

TGES will perform the tender management services for the upcoming EPCC tender planned by GMTP.

Gulf Energy owns 70 percent in the LNG terminal developer while PTT Tank holds the rest. The two firms established the JV back in 2019. The terminal would have a capacity of up to 10.8 million tonnes per annum.

TGES said the new contract would last by the middle of 2023, but it did not provide the price tag of the deal.

This is the second time for the company to work for GMTP’s LNG terminal project, after having been awarded to conduct the original FEED in August 2020.

TGES said it had participated in several Thailand LNG projects, namely the Map Ta Phut LNG receiving terminal Phase 2 and the Nong Fab LNG receiving terminal or the Map Ta Phut LMPT2 LNG terminal.

LNG demand in Thailand is on rise, supported by the steady economic growth and to make up for the falling production in domestic gas fields, TGES noted in the statement.
