January 10, 2025 [SAF Investor]- French energy technology company Axens announced it has been selected by three project developers to use its Axens Vegan solution for production of renewable fuels including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO).
The companies include Portuguese multinational energy corporation Galp, Malaysian energy firm LOKEN, developing a renewable complex in South-East Asia, as well as Pakistan’s SAFCO Venture Holdings Limited (SAFCO Ventures).
Under the agreement, Axens will supply technology license, catalysts, proprietary equipment, training, and technical services for these new projects.
“We are honored to provide our Vegan technology to these three leading energy players with ambitious energy transition objectives. With our highly proven proprietary solution already adopted by a wide range of customers all over the world, we are pleased to contribute to the industry’s effort and trajectory to decarbonise the energy sector. First of their kind in these countries, these projects integrating Axens Vegan technology are significant milestones for both Axens and our partners,” saidJean-Luc Nocca, executive vice president commercial at Axens.
Axens entered the biodiesel market in the 90’s, with the Esterfip™ technologies. Eight years after the successful start-up of its first reference, Axens Vegan markets technology dedicated to the production of SAF/HVO through the Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) pathway.
The company said that three new Vegan units are expected to start in the coming months. Earlier in November of last year, Axens also entered in an agreement with Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company KazMunayGaz (KMG) to explore the feasibility of producing SAF in Kazakhstan
