Spain’s Port of Alicante Greenlights €5M Green Hydrogen Facility
06.10.2026 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

June 10, 2026 [Hydrogen Europe]- The Port Authority of Alicante has approved the call for the public tender for the construction and operation of a renewable hydrogen production and supply plant in Pier 19, a key project in its commitment to renewable energies and the reduction of the carbon footprint of the port complex.

This initiative is part of the roadmap promoted by its president, Luis Rodríguez, aimed at turning the port into a smart, green, innovative and competitive energy node in the Mediterranean.

The plant is part of the PORTALI-H2 project and represents a decisive advance in the integration of clean industrial technologies, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing the emissions associated with both port operations and maritime and land transport linked to the port. The facility will allow to produce, store and supply renewable hydrogen from the enclosure itself, facilitating the incorporation of more sustainable mobility and logistics solutions for ships, port machinery and ground fleets.
