Protium’s 100 Green Hydrogen Deliveries Signal Major Progress in UK Hydrogen Production
07.02.2025 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

July 02, 2025 [Hydrogen Fuel News]- Protium just hit a major milestone—its 100th shipment of green hydrogen has officially left the Pioneer 1 site in Baglan, South Wales. That’s 3,681 kilograms of clean, zero-emission fuel delivered to customers across the transport, construction, and event industries. Not bad for a facility that’s one of the few fully operational commercial green hydrogen production sites in the UK. The project is a collaboration with the University of South Wales and runs on Enapter’s AEM electrolyser tech, making it both innovative and practical.

Digital tech meets hydrogen production

Along with hitting 100 shipments, Protium also announced it’s teaming up with AVEVA, a move that’s all about smart scaling. By plugging in cutting-edge digital tools like process analytics, advanced simulations, and predictive maintenance, the company aims to boost speed and efficiency as it grows. Basically, it’s making the whole hydrogen production process smoother and smarter.

Fueling growth with serious investment

Backed by a solid £31 million in Series B funding, Protium is already looking ahead. The next big thing? A brand-new facility, also in South Wales, set to go live by mid-2025. It’ll run on a 2.5MW electrolyser, which means even more zero-emission technology and a big leap in production volume. Chalk it up as another step toward serious industrial decarbonization.

South Wales: A key player in hydrogen infrastructure

All of this puts both Protium and South Wales in the spotlight when it comes to building out the UK’s hydrogen infrastructure. It’s a real-world example of how smart tech, strategic partnerships, and ambitious investment can come together to accelerate the transition to cleaner, greener energy. And if this momentum keeps up, green hydrogen could soon be playing an even bigger role in powering industries without the carbon footprint.
